Dr. Portenoy is a 1985 graduate of the SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, where he received his D.D.S. with Thesis Honors in Behavioral Psychology. He is a Scholar of the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. The Pankey Institute is the leading center for post-graduate training of dentists and Dr. Portenoy is first of six dentists in the world to be awarded Scholar status, the institute's highest honor.
Dr. Portenoy teaches prosthetics (crowns, bridges, implants, dentures) at the Nassau University Medical Center, holds a position as visiting faculty at the L.D. Pankey Institute, and was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the L.D. Pankey Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Nassau County Dental Society, a member of the Nassau County Peer Review team (appointed by dentists to review other dentists' treatments), and a board member for the Rockville Centre Education Foundation. He frequently lectures to dentists in the New York area.
Dr. Portenoy is married and has three children. He is a resident of Rockville Centre.
Dr. Garver graduated with honors from Brandeis University and attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. She completed a two-year residency program at Nassau University Medical Center, where she was a chief resident and a student of Dr. Portenoy's. Dr. Garver is the recipient of many academic awards. She is currently an attending dentist at Nassau University Medical Center as well as a member of the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education.
